About Kyōyū – A Story of Sharing and MATCHA:

It all started with a cup of matcha…

We are Guillaume and Mali , a couple united by a passion for discovery and travel. Mali is from Bangkok , a city where matcha is omnipresent: from small specialty cafes to large brands, it is on every menu, in the form of lattes, desserts or traditional drinks. Accustomed to drinking it for a long time, it was she who introduced me to this drink during our first tasting together in a cafe in the city.

Curious, I began to explore the different flavors offered, intrigued by this multifaceted green powder. But the more I tasted, the more one question came back: what makes a good matcha?

Discovering the secrets of matcha

We started asking ourselves questions: Why are some matchas sweeter than others? Where do the umami, nutty, or creamy notes come from? As we dug deeper, we discovered a key element that is often overlooked: cultivars . Like wine and its grape varieties, each tea plant cultivar brings specific aromas and textures to matcha. Fascinated by this diversity, we decided to explore further and travel together to Japan , to meet the lands where matcha comes to life.

From Uji , the historic birthplace of matcha, to Yame on the island of Kyushu , we visited plantations, spoke with passionate growers, and tasted matcha from different cultivars to understand their subtleties. We also learned that to guarantee a superior matcha , it is essential that it comes from the first spring harvest . It is these young leaves, carefully picked, that offer the most refined flavors and the creamiest texture.

Kyōyū – Matcha to share 💚

From this quest was born Kyoyu (共有) , which means “to share” in Japanese. This word perfectly embodies our philosophy: matcha is much more than just a drink, it is a moment of exchange and discovery.

We have carefully selected our matchas, directly from Japanese producers, to offer you three ceremonial matchas , each with a unique identity:

🍵 KISAKUNA (friendly) – A matcha with a balanced taste, with notes of umami and hazelnut.
🍵 TANOSHI (happy) – A creamy matcha with notes of almond.
🍵 SHINSETSU (benevolent) – A sweet matcha with subtle notes of red berries.

Our goal is simple: to make matcha authentic and accessible , whether you are a novice or a passionate fan.

Join the adventure! 💚

Whether you want to prepare a comforting matcha latte or enjoy a traditional matcha , we are happy to accompany you in this discovery.
